Change

Change –by Greg Thelen

I took a walk into the city
Where the silver towers stand
A woman said that one is insurance
They’re breakin’ down my man
Seven years they took our money
And now that he’s sick it’s a rotten shame
Good god almighty it’s time to believe in change

I bought the biggest lie in slavery
That blacks were less than me
I looked into the fire
And the truth has set me free
For all the stubborn people
Who want to keep everything the same
Good god almighty it’s time to believe in change

You can put life before religion
Or religion before life
But jihadis and crusaders
Better keep your hands off mine
You say the judgement day is coming
I say there’s plenty to do in this place
And good god almighty it’s time to believe in change

Don’t waste time tryin’ to shake me down
Over faith my color or just plain greed
I’ll steal that crime for an old school blues
Breakin’ a rhyme and pointin’ a finger is all I need

I’ve been around enough to notice
What is left and what is right
Sometimes I wind up in the middle
‘Cause it’s where I see the light
We all need loving kindness
And gentle touch can ease the pain
And good god almighty it’s time to believe in change
Good god almighty it’s time to believe in change
